The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) is set to transform classroom teaching with the introduction of contextualised, AI-generated lesson plans designed specifically for Nigerian schools.
TRCN Registrar, Dr. Ronke Soyombo, announced the groundbreaking initiative on Wednesday in Abuja during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GMIND AI. The partnership will see the development of an artificial intelligence platform that delivers lesson plans enriched with Nigerian history, culture, and everyday realities, making learning more relatable and impactful for students.
The official rollout will take place on October 6, following the launch of TRCN’s redesigned website on August 25, which will feature multilingual video guides for educators. Nationwide training sessions across all six geopolitical zones are also planned to ensure teachers can effectively use the platform.
“We want AI-generated lesson plans that are contextualised for our children,” Dr. Soyombo explained. “
Every lesson will also be simulated because 21st-century learners need to see and experience concepts for learning to be profound.”Unlike generic international platforms, the TRCN-GMIND system will seamlessly blend global and local content.
Students will learn about both the Victorians and the Ife and Benin Kingdoms in one integrated approach. The platform will offer two key resource categories:AI-generated lesson plans with simulations for teachers comfortable with digital tools.
Prescriptive, ready-to-use lesson plans for educators with limited ICT skills, ensuring no teacher is left behind.
The lesson bank will span all subjects and cater to gifted, average, and struggling learners, with differentiated content and practical, hands-on activities. Teachers can access materials online, through state TRCN offices, or in downloadable formats.“Once the burden of lesson planning is reduced, teachers can focus on adapting materials to meet their learners’ needs,” Dr. Soyombo added, noting that top educators will contribute to designing the prescriptive resources.
Dr. Deji Ajani, Director of Strategic Partnership and Innovation at GMIND AI, described the initiative as a flagship example of AI in education in Africa.
“We are excited to co-create TRCN AI, a customised ecosystem that blends cutting-edge technology with Nigeria’s unique educational needs,” he said.
With this innovation, Nigeria is positioning itself as a leader in using AI to revolutionise teaching, making education more relevant, inclusive, and future-ready.
